Reindeer Feeding and Sami Culture

Description

Enjoy untouched Arctic nature around you as you marvel at the Lyngen Alps, meet our Reindeers and learn more about our ancient culture!

Participate in the daily feeding of a herd of over 200 reindeer!

You will be picked up outside Radisson Blu Hotel in Tromsø: just look for the guide wearing a blue Luhkka (traditional Sami poncho).

After checking in with our guide, you will hop on a 45 minutes’ drive to our camp. On your way, you will be able to enjoy the beautiful Northern Norwegian mountains and upon arrival, you will be greeted by our Sami guide who will give a brief safety introduction and guide you to the reindeer fence to start with the reindeer feeding.

Learn more about these amazing animals while enjoying the views with the Lyngen Alps in the background, and take in the beauty of our little patch of Arctic paradise!

Now that the reindeers are full and satisfied, it's your turn to have lunch!

You will head to the Gamme (a modern interpretation of a traditional Sami hut) or the Lavvu (a traditional Sami tent, much like a Tipi) for a hot drink and a warm tasty Biddos, our traditional Sami stew with Reindeer meat, potatoes and carrots. We also offer a vegan alternative, a veggie soup with lentils, carrots, broccoli and green beans.

Inside the Gamme after your meal, our guide will tell you more about life in the Arctic, Sami knowledge and culture, and will show you a collection of Sami artifacts and clothing.

And lastly, there will be time for a bathroom break and for you to visit our lovely souvenir shop on site, before boarding the bus and going back to the city!

Tromsø Lapland is established by authentic Saami people with long reindeer herding traditions and have the longest experience of running authentic Saami experience and culture tours in Tromsø, being established in 2009.
