Self-Drive Dog Sledding by Tromsø Villmarkssenter

Description

Seeking excitement and a challenge? Try your hand as a musher! Our skilled guides will introduce you to the basics of dog sledding, and then we’ll head into the wilderness. You’ll share the sled with another guest—one driving and the other riding. After half the journey, you’ll swap roles.

A 25-minute drive from Tromsø city will take you to our center, where we’ll provide you with thermal overalls and boots to keep you warm in the polar temperatures. Just bring warm underwear, a hat, and gloves.

Before we set off, one of our experienced guides will give you a brief introduction to dog sledding, so no worries if it’s your first time! You’ll be on the sled for about 45-60 minutes, depending on the weather.

Afterward, enjoy a guided tour of our dog yard, where you can meet and cuddle with our 200 Alaskan huskies and their puppies. Learn about dog sled racing, the Alaskan Husky breed, and animal welfare. Then, savor a hearty lunch of Bidos (a traditional Sami reindeer stew with vegetarian options available upon request), hot drinks, and our famous chocolate cake in our cozy Gamme-hut. Served around an open fire, it’s the perfect way to warm up after your adventure. After bidding farewell to the dogs, we’ll return to Tromsø.

Duration: 4 hours and 15 minutes.
