As a pioneer in chasing the northern lights in Tromsø, Tromsø Friluftsenter is celebrating their 20th anniversary in 2024, showcasing extensive experience and local knowledge. Their goal is to give you a genuine taste of Northern Norway's hospitality, charm, and humor, exceeding your expectations for a northern lights trip. Tromsø Friluftsenter is committed to making your northern lights dream come true with every effort.

"We'll go wherever needed to find clear skies, even driving to Finland if necessary." Make sure to dress warmly; thermal suits will be avaliable in the minibus that you can wear over your own clothes.

Meeting at Scandic Ishavshotel in the city center, just a short walk from most hotels and 10 minutes from the airport. Tromsø Friluftsenter plans the best route based on local weather knowledge for optimal chances of clear skies and northern lights. They collaborate with top guides to ensure a successful experience. The adventure begins with a film about the northern lights, covering both science and myths.

If the weather is favorable, Tromsø Friluftsenter will take you to their coastal farm, offering a glimpse into rich coastal history since 1880. A lavvo provides shelter as they share stories from past, including Sami, Kven, and Tromsø's city status in 1794. In other locations, they ensure a pleasant experience with a fire, seating, hot beverages, and the world's best chocolate cake.

During the evening, Tromsø Friluftsenter captures professional photos of you under the northern lights, available for download and they will be also helping with your camera or phone settings.

In cases of low chances for clear skies:

The guides check the latest weather update at 18:00. Te guide will meet you at the pickup time, and you'll be informed if the chances of some clear sky are very low. The guides will make this assesment according to their experience and, if this is the case, give you three options:

1. Get of the bus and get a full refund.

2. Take the riske and try for the northern lights anyway. Choosing to take the chance means no refund, as Tromsø Friluftsenter is committed to doing their best —remember: "Tromsø Friluftsenter wants you to see the lights just as much as you want to!"

3. Rescheduling to a different day (availability on the following days is not guaranteed).

A reminder: Ensure your travel insurance covers arctic conditions. Pickup at Tromsø Camping is available at 18:15; specify this in your booking.
